Today, RCS hosted the Global Grounds in the University Center. We had a pretty big turnout, as you can see. Most of the people who came by were unaware of our club, and a good portion of them were interested in learning about the language – including how to write their names in Cyrillic!
Jean had brought a whiteboard and stickers for everyone to write their names on in Russian. She also made a game on poster-board. People could come by, and guess the famous Russian on the board, and then see if they were right! It was a very interactive day.
She also had the movie “Russian Ark” playing on the projector. If you have never seen this movie, you need to. Released in 2003 and directed by Alexander Sokurov, the movie is set and FILMED in the Hermitage. That’s unheard of. What is also amazing about this 90 minute movie is that there is no editing. The actors rehearsed it like a play, and it was filmed without pausing for anything. I won’t give the story away, but is a breathtaking movie. The last photo in this post shows a section of the film.
I want to thank everyone who came out today. I had a lot of fun. If you couldn’t make it, you were certainly there in spirit, and we hope to see you at the next one (whenever we host again)!
