Welcome to the new semester!

The Russian Culture Society is off to a very busy start for this fall!

We already have three events planned:

  • “Knowledge Day” in Russia which marks the beginning of the new school year and the promotion of students to the next grade is celebrated on 1 September.  RCS would like to celebrate the start of our new year at UTA with lunch at Taste of Europe (1901 W. Pioneer Parkway). Please join us Friday, 4 September from 12:00 to 2:00pm! Because of the short notice, please RSVP by Monday August 31 to ut.arlington.rcs@gmail.com to attend this event. View the menu here:  http://www.tasteofeuropetx.com/restaurant.php Suggested dishes:  Borscht, Shashlyk (Russian-style shish-kebab), Pelmeni (dumplings), Blintzes, Tulski pryanniki (traditional dessert from Tula), hot chai, and kvass!
  • Russian Masters Ballet at Bass Hall the weekend of 2-4 October.  Directed by Ben Stevenson, the Texas Ballet Theatre’s performs Tchaikovsky’s Serenade, Alexander Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances from Prince Igor.  A wonderful mix of classical and contemporary ballet!
  • Trip to the Russian Banya of Dallas (http://www.russianbanyaofdallas.com/) around 7 November in celebration of the October Revolution (now called Day of Accord and Reconciliation.)  The Banya is not only a spa, but also a restaurant and discotheque!   Many native Russians frequent the Banya.

These are only the first three of many wonderful events we are planning for the Fall semester!

If you are interested in attending any or all of these events, please RSVP ASAP to ut.arlington.rcs@gmail.com

See you soon!
